And in the realm of "Some people just don't get it..."
I often post on a site that has a board for special needs parents. These are cool parents dealing with all sorts of different needs, from autism to tube feeding to wheelchairs to whatever. It's a pretty inclusive board, a great place to hang out and vent to people who get it.
Well...someone strayed from that board to another section of the site, where there was a discussion about the banning of straws and lids at zoos. All us special needs parents went "What? Take our beloved straws and lids away??? ACK!" The other parents/people involved in this debate gave us a "For shame! What about the poor animals?" and "Well you should have EVERYTHING you need when you go out, you silly, non-prepared person!"
The thread was pulled after one of the non-SN people suggested to a SN mom that maybe she should take her child for a hike instead.
A hike.
Because it's so easy to take a child who may not be able to walk on a hike.
A HIKE!
I found it hysterical. Obviously that person doesn't go hiking much with a child who has issues with walking or wandering off. This would probably be the same person who'd chastise me for buying Maura a leash after the "escaping from Joann's" incident last week. This is most definitely a person who has never had to meet one of these particular challenges.
You know, there was a segment yesterday on The Today Show about how Americans are getting dumber.... stupidity
